In the early 2000s, as nu-metal exploded worldwide with bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, a fresh sound took root in Moscow with SLOT (СЛОТ). Formed in 2002, they captured that energy and made it their own, Russian-style: theatrical rock blending heavy grooves, electronic touches, and dual vocals that fused male grit with the feminine touch. SLOT built a strong following from the start, but the band’s trajectory changed dramatically when one standout singer stepped in.

Nuki Joins: A Turning Point (2006)

That singer was Daria Stavrovich (born February 1, 1986, in Velsk), better known to fans as Nuki – a direct nod to Limp Bizkit’s Nookie. She joined SLOT in 2006 as their third female vocalist, and the shift was immediate. Her intensity on stage – raw, unfiltered – turned SLOT’s live shows into events. She first appeared on a re-recorded version of Две Войны (Two Wars, 2006), followed by the breakthrough Тринити (Trinity, 2007) – the first album fully shaped by her presence. By 2008, SLOT were a fixture at Nashestvie (Нашествие, Russia’s biggest rock festival), and drawing crowds that dwarfed almost any other Russian metal act of the era.

April 18, 2014: Knife Attack on Sadovaya Street

In 2014, that momentum was violently interrupted. On April 18, 2014, right before a routine autograph session at café Stoker on Sadovaya Street in St. Petersburg, a disturbed 19-year-old stalker – who’d sent prior threats and alarming messages online – ambushed Nuki with a knife. Multiple stabs to the neck and hand severed vessels and damaged her trachea; she lost massive blood, suffered cardiac arrest en route to Mariinskaya Hospital, and arrived in critical condition. Emergency surgery saved her life, and Nuki’s recovery was miraculous: discharged just ten days later on April 28, she was back on stage within months.

Solo Work and Wider Exposure

The period after 2014 marked a subtle shift. As she recovered, Nuki began to more actively develop her solo identity, building on work already underway. Her debut album, Живы! (Live!, 2013), had introduced her beyond the band, but in the following years her independent output became more visible. A key moment came in 2016, when she performed Zombie on The Voice Russia (Голос, Season 5), where her unconventional presence and vocal delivery set her apart.

The End of the Nuki Era

By the mid-2020s, it became clear that Nuki’s solo ambitions and SLOT’s trajectory were diverging. In 2024, after nearly two decades together, she and the band parted ways – closing a defining chapter in Russian alternative rock.

Круги на воде (Circles on the Water, 2016)

From Septima (2016), SLOT’s most popular song.

Кто-то ушёл на дно
А кому-то всё равно
Погрустили, а завтра забыли
Будто не были и не любили

Someone sank to the bottom
And someone just doesn't care
We grieved a little, then forgot by morning
As if we’d never been, and never loved

Русская Душа (Russian Soul, 2016)

Also from Septima (2016), SLOT’s most Russian song – an anthem for the soul. I touched on it briefly before, on Rusland1.

Америкос – существительное, Русский – прилагательное
К нему бесплатно прилагается крепкое слово матерное
У вас бой до первой капли крови, у нас до последней
Мы строим на века, и оно исчезает бесследно

American is a noun, Russian is an adjective.
A strong swear word is attached to it for free.
You fight to the first drop of blood, we fight to the last.
We build for centuries, and it disappears without a trace.

Зло (Evil, 2022)

Stand-alone single; listen on Apple Music, Spotify. Symphonic versions: live at Crocus City Hall (2023), Live Санкт-Петербург (2024).

И это зло никогда не спит
Оно ищет и кормит тьму
Разделяет нас
Разрывает нас

And this evil never sleeps
It seeks and feeds the darkness
Divides us
Tears us apart

SLOT Without Nuki: Точка невозврата (2026)

The SLOT you hear in Точка невозврата (The Point of No Return, 2026) is the band without Nuki. Darya Ravdina (Дарья Равдина) took over as vocalist in July 2024, just a few months after the split. It is worth noting that she did not step out of the shadows to join SLOT – she stepped across from Ravdina, a band with a solid following of their own. Featured earlier in Me, Myself and I (special 2026), and starring in this YouTube short.
